So here's an odd question.
I was cleaning my CPU off over the sink (big mistake) with alchohol and cotton swabs when it slipped out of my hand and landed in the bottom of the sink. The drop was about 2 feet maybe.. into a porcelain sink.
Cosmetically, the chip is fine, no bent pins (I guess it landed on the heatspreader side or on a corner), no chips in the heatspreader, hopefully no chips in the core.
Functionally, it also appears to be fine. The CPU boots and works like usual.
This whole event got me thinking about how much shock can a CPU withstand before it gets damaged.
To me, it would appear that CPU's are very resilient pieces of equipment due to no moving parts inside the core. Does anyone with experience in this area know if shock can effect things like overclockability, heat output, and stability on a CPU that has been dropped in a similar manner? Install processor
