Problems Opening installer.DMG after macOS 10.13 High Sierra upgrade. One user has reported an issue opening the Screenwriter 6.5 installer.DMG (disk image) after they upgraded to macOS 10.13 High Sierra. On a Mac, the error message '[Program Name] is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash.' means that there's a problem opening a downloading disk image (.dmg) file. There are two usual causes for this problem:

1. The downloaded file is actually broken. We usually only see a corruption of the downloaded installer file when the download was interrupted or if a 'download manager' program was used to download the DMG (as is common in Firefox.) We recommend trying to download the DMG again, using a different browser (like Safari or Google Chrome).

2. Your Mac settings don't allow for software from Apple identified developers. It's common to have your security settings only allow Mac App Store apps. Our software is not in the Mac App Store, but it is signed with our registered Apple Developer identifier certificate (aka an 'identified developer' by Apple.)

   • Open your Mac System Preferences, and select Security & Privacy.
   • Set your 'Allow apps downloaded from' is set to Mac App Store and identified developers.
   • Try opening the DMG again.
   • After opening the DMG and using the program, if you usually prefer to only open apps from Mac App Store, you can set your preference back.

Mac OS X security by default does not allow all .app extensions to be installed. At worst, it will throw an error message that the app “is damaged and can’t be opened.” This error makes you believe that the downloaded app is corrupted and that there is no application that could let it open. However, sometimes this is just a security issue that can be corrected.

Users are seeing warning messages about downloaded applications being damaged and unable to be opened. Sometimes is due to a true corruption during download. These days download corruption is very rare, and more frequently this is a due to Apple’s increasing security measures. If you are trying to open an application that did not install through the Apple App Store, you likely just need to adjust your security preferences.

Open Applications Downloaded from the Internet

1.Go to the Apple icon, and chose System Preferences.

2.Under System Preferences, choose Security & Privacy.

If no actor is active, then this field is hidden. To set the source actor of an effect, drag the name field of a CT actor onto the label field of a CT effect entry. 4.To fix the “Move to Trash” error, we need to change the Allow apps downloaded from: option to Anywhere. You cannot do that since it is grayed out and disabled. It needs authentication from an administrator. To do that, click on the lock icon next to Click the lock to make changes. That should open a dialog box asking you to enter your password. If you have not set your password, just leave it blank, and hit the Enter key on your keyboard.
